Germany welcomes IAEA resolution on Iran`s nuclear programme
IRNA
Berlin, Nov 26, IRNA -- The German government hailed Wednesday the latest International Atomic Energy Agency`s (IAEA) resolution on Iran`s nuclear programme, calling it an "important step". "We welcome this resolution as an important step," German Foreign Ministry spokesman Walter Lindner told IRNA, while referring to his country`s role in passing a "consensus resolution". Lindner pointed out that US Secretary of State Colin Powell had specifically thanked Germany, France and Britain for mediating in the nuclear dispute with Iran. The 35-member council of IAEA governors unanimously passed Wednesday the resolution on Iran`s nuclear programme following days of lengthy and intensive negotiations between Europe and the United States. Tehran has consented to voluntarily suspend its uranium enrichment programme and sign the additional nuclear safeguards protocol, while in exchange Europe agreed to provide Iran with modern civilian nuclear technology.
