Iran says board resolution offers limited relief to hard liners
IRNA
Vienna, Nov 26, IRNA -- The resolution adopted here on Wednesday has been tailored to carry the views of all members of the the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency, offering limited and marginal relief to the few hard liners, said a press statement released by Iranian delegation to the IAEA in Vienna. The statement which was distributed among the reporters after adoption of the board`s resolution here on Wednesday, said the resolution is not the preferred text with its tone and content not being fully reflective of the positive path of cooperation that prevails today. It said the resolution, is perhaps the sole outcome that could be expected under the circumstances. The statement said the resolution is clear on certain specific and significant points. Past failures by Iran to report certain aspects of its peaceful nuclear program do not amount to non-compliance, it said, adding that the matter remains within the Agency and there is no ground for UN Security Council involvement. The statement said Iran has disclosed all aspects of its nuclear program in full and the passage about future serious breaches therefore will remain derelict and inert for good. The statement went on to say that the resolution makes a clear distinction between the past and the future, recognizing that a new chapter has started which is characterized by provocative cooperation and transparency. It said Iran has proved its sense of responsibility by fulfilling all the essential and urgent requirements and implementing remedial actions for its past failures. This, it added, will have to pave the way for normalization of relations with the IAEA. The Iranian delegation said Iran will be steadfast in its commitment of transparency and cooperation. It said Iran`s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful and will remain peaceful. Intrusive inspections will only serve to verify the same, it added. The statement said the Ministers of France, Germany and Britain have demonstrated their good faith in the process leading to this decision. It added, "We in Iran have done the same. It seems more likely than ever now that this crisis may evolve into a turning point in our relations with Europe and the west as a whole. This can be good news for our region which is currently moved in trouble and tension." 216/214 End
