IAEA capable of making independent decision on Iran nuc program
IRNA
Moscow, Nov 25, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Russia believes that the International Atomic Energy Agency`s (IAEA) Board of Governors is capable of making an independent decision on Iran`s nuclear program, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak told Tass on Tuesday. "Consultations on the draft new resolution are underway in Vienna and we hope for a sober, weighed-out and independent decision," the high-ranking diplomat said. "We see no need in taking that matter to the UN Security Council because it may be solved by the IAEA Board of Governors," Kislyak said. According to the Russian deputy foreign minister, "Routine work over the resolution is going on and it is natural that we have different approaches to the problem. "We believe that our Iranian counterparts have made a number of correct decisions to secure transparency of their nuclear program," Kislyak noted. "Tehran has informed about its activity, offered to sign a protocol on the IAEA warranties and frozen its research works in the sphere of uranium enrichment," he indicated. Such measures strictly fall in line with previous resolutions by the IAEA Board of Governors, Kislyak said. The deputy foreign minister said Russia stood for `securing maximum cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, as well as for removing all questions`. It is very important to get a calm and weighed-out resolution, he contended. /AH/210 End
