ElBaradei authorized to enter process of Iran`s joining NPT protocol
IRNA
Vienna, Nov 21, IRNA -- Iran`s Ambassador to IAEA Ali-Akbar Salehi said here on Friday that the U.N. agency`s Director General Mohamed ElBaradei is now authorized to start the process of Iran`s signing of the the NPT`s Additional Protocol. Iran had already voiced readiness in a letter, submitted to the Agency, to sign the protocol, said Salehi to a group of reporters upon leaving the IAEA board meeting on Friday. Salehi criticised the US delegation for still holding the past accusations against Iran. He said that the majority of the board members are looking forward to see the issue is resolved peacefully, hoping that in the near future the affair will be peacefully settled. Asked about the Tehran agreement, signed in October with three major European states, namely Britain, Germany and France, Salehi said Iran had not set any condition for the cooperation and looks forward to maintain cooperation with Europeans. He said the cooperation includes voluntary suspension of enrichment activities, conclusion of the NPT additional protocol and enhancement of cooperation with the IAEA. All the positive developments and steps taken by Iran no longer leave any room for reference of Iran`s case to the Security Council as promised by the "thoughtful, wise, and prudent" members of the board, he concluded. Asked when Iran will join the NPT additional protocol, Salehi said, "No one could tell as it is a process that is presently being proceeded." 216/NA/210 End
