Khorram: 60 planes to be added to civil aviation fleet
IRNA
Mashhad, Khorasan prov, Nov 20, IRNA -- Minister of Road and Transport said here Thursday that 60 passenger planes will be added to the aviation fleet. Ahmad Khorram speaking at a Road and Transportation seminar in this provincial capital added that contract has been inked for 30 planes. "We are waiting for the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) to open the Letter of Credit (LC) at which time the planes will be delivered to the country within a year." He also cautioned that if the LC are not opened by the next Saturday, the contracts will be void. He said purchase of another 30 aircraft is on the agenda, "Which again depends on the availability of LC. These plans have been built in 1995," he added. The main goal in buying planes are after-sale services provisions offered by the sellers, "So we can be assured of service in case of technical problems." Khorram ruled out purchase of new passenger planes from western countries. "We held negotiations with Russia to purchase Tupolev-204 jet planes which consume less petrol even than similar western types," he said. The price range of Tupolev-204 is dlrs 22-28 million which is close to half of similar western-build aircraft, he said. Head of Iran Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Hassan Haj Alifard was in Moscow last week to discuss purchase of Russian-made Tupolev 204 planes, the ICAO public relations department reported here Tuesday. Alifard headed a delegation which comprised of four committees on management, technical, operational and design. During their stay in Moscow they reviewed technical capabilities of the aircraft in order to make an evaluation on the new generation of Tupolev planes. The delegation will present their findings later in Tehran. NB/215 End
