Concerns about Iran`s nuclear program to be cleared
IRNA
Moscow, Nov 10, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Iran`s decision to send on Monday a letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about its readiness to join the treaty on additional guarantees for nuclear non-proliferation was an important decision. After the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and secretary of Iran`s Supreme Council for National Security Hassan Rowhani in the Kremlin, Ivanov said Iran`s decision `must clear all the concerns regarding Iran`s nuclear program`. The minister said, "Russia had been `consistently pressing for meeting this term. We were constantly engaged in a dialogue` and we are satisfied with the fact that Iran announced its decision in Moscow." Ivanov said, "The fulfillment of all the terms and obligations opened extra opportunities for Iran`s cooperation not only with Russia but also with other countries, also in the nuclear area." Ivanov said Iran now considers signing an agreement with Russia on the return of spent nuclear fuel to Russia. "The signing of this agreement is the condition for the supply of nuclear fuel to the Iranian power station in Bushehr," the minister said. He said that at the meeting in the Kremlin the Iranian side confirmed the readiness to sign such an agreement. Russia `confirmed the readiness to develop broad cooperation with Iran in every area`, the minister said. Among the areas of cooperation Ivanov mentioned trade and economy, contemporary technologies, including cooperation in the aerospace area. Iran stated at the meeting its readiness to cooperate in the settlement on the Caspian status, he said. During their meeting, Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rowhani discussed cooperation of the two countries in fighting terrorism. "The Iranian secretary said today that Iran is ready actively to cooperate with Russia," Ivanov said. He said Russia and Iran had coordinated their efforts in fighting terrorism earlier and would continue to coordinate their activity for the political settlement of the situation in the region on the basis of the United Nations decisions. Russia and Iran have `fundamentally close or coinciding` approaches to the situation regarding Iraq, the Russian foreign minister said. He said that in order to settle the situation in Iraq it is necessary to restore its sovereignty, elect representatives of the Iraqi people to government bodies, create conditions of security, and ensure the United Nations active role in the settlement process and economic restoration. Ivanov believes this set of problems needs to be settled to `arrest the spiralling of violence`. /AH/210 End
