FM: Suspension of uranium enrichment involves a technical process
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 28, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here on Tuesday said that in order for Iran to suspend the uranium enrichment process, the required technical grounds should first be prepared. Speaking to reporters after meeting with Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission members, he said that signing of the preliminary additional protocol requires a special process. "We are currently drawing up a letter on the issue to be forwarded to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which will be signed by Iran, once the agency approves it," he added. In response to the question on the reaction of the scholars and students to the four-party Tehran Statement, he said that decisions in Iran are taken after different outlooks are examined. "However, the reasons for the measures to be taken should be provided and the remarks of the opponents should be heard, given they feel bound to voice their views, which should be respected. "This proves that great difficulties should be overcome to make decisions and that it is not so easy to dictate something to others," he added. Kharrazi hoped to manage to develop an atmosphere satisfactory to everyone. Turning to people as supporters of the ruling system, he said, "We believe that the people are entitled to express themselves. Meanwhile, it is our duty to keep them informed." Concerning the absence of MPs in the EU foreign ministers meeting, he expressed respect for the deputies and said that any measure taken by the government with respect to signing of the additional protocol should eventually be ratified by Majlis. "Majlis fulfills its supervisory task by holding such talks and will accomplish its legislative duties through assessment of the future draft of the additional protocol and its final ratification. "It is our duty to brief MPs on Iran`s foreign policy. We were invited to today`s session to brief them on the content of the joint statement issued at Tehran foreign ministers meeting," he added. Kharrazi said that the diversity of outlooks on the issue is quite normal. He hoped that the government and Majlis would manage to take further steps to the effect, given the good cooperation between them. Kharrazi attended the meeting of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission along with Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi. MP/212 End
