Gov`t spokesman: Iran to suspend uranium enrichment process.
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 27, IRNA -- Government Spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh said here Monday that signing of Tehran Statement is in line with Iran`s detente policy and in view of President Mohammad Khatami`s pledge to the public, adding that the majority of the Iranian community approve the measure. Speaking to reporters in his weekly press conference, he denounced the suspension of Bushehr Nuclear Power Station for two years. He added that given the power station has nothing to do with the NPT additional protocol, it will continue its normal trend. In response to another question on the schedule for signing an agreement on the return of waste nuclear fuel to Russia, he said that the issue is currently being examined. In reply to a question on the government`s approach towards the arrest of a number of Iranian students by the British government last night, he said that no information is yet available on the issue. Asked whether there is any other option rather than the high participation in Iraq`s reconstruction, given the damage inflicted on Iran during the Iraqi-imposed war, he said that the related reparations are still high on the agenda of the Foreign Ministry and other concerned organizations. "There is no question of providing Iraq with relief aid. Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, rather referred to the credit loans available to the Iranian or foreign companies interested in Iranian products, a trend normally practiced across the world to secure the interests of the companies. With respect to the alleged arrest of a member of Islamic Jamaa, Mostafa Hamzeh, in Iran, accused of being one of the assassins of the former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in 1995, he said that he doesn`t know anything about it.
