Gov`t spokesman: Iran to suspend uranium enrichment process.
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 27, IRNA -- Government Spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh here on Monday referred to Iran`s suspension of its nuclear enrichment activities in accordance with the recently-issued four-party Tehran Statement and said that it has not yet been materialized. He added that no definite schedule has so long been set for the measure. Speaking at his weekly press conference, Ramazanzadeh in response to a question on Iran`s reaction to the dissatisfaction of US officials with Tehran Statement, said that Iran`s decisions are taken in accordance to its interests and not to convince the American authorities. "The Americans, Israelis and warmongering parties across the world opposed the statement. Unfortunately, some domestic groups had a similar outlook," he added. Concerning the domestic opposition and rallies against Tehran`s decision to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) additional protocol, he said that it is quite normal to have various outlooks towards national issues, including Iran`s nuclear program. In response to a question on the reaction of the ruling system to the failure of Europeans to fulfill their commitments, he said that given they are bilateral, Iran has a similar standing. Asked about the names of the arrested Al-Qaeda members submitted to the UN Security Council by Iran, he said that the country`s policy is based on campaign against terrorism in all its forms. In reply to another question whether the draft on fourth development plan will be submitted to Majlis earlier than that of the next Iranian year`s (starting March 21) budget, he said this would depend on the process of its assessment by Majlis and hoped this would take effect later in the month. Turning to the charges brought up against Iran and Syria with respect to unrests in Iraq, he noted, "Our policy is based on promoting regional security in the neighboring states including Afghanistan and Iraq." Ramezanzadeh said that security in Iraq will be established once the foreign troops leave the country and the Iraqis are allowed to take charge of their internal affairs. "Given that we don`t benefit from unrest in Iraq, we denounce any charges against Iran in this respect," he concluded. MP/212 End
