IRNA
Tehran, Oct 26, IRNA -- Ambassadors and heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Tehran were invited on Sunday to the Foreign Ministry for a briefing on the recent negotiations between Iran and three European countries on Iran`s nuclear program. Director general of Foreign Ministry`s Political and International Affairs Bureau said the meeting was held to reassure the international community of Iran`s peaceful nuclear program. Amir Jamani-Nia said the earnest discussions between Tehran and EU foreign ministers revolved around Iran`s decision on complete and transparent cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), signing of additional protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and volunteer moratorium on uranium enrichment activities. The European foreign ministers also alluded to Iran`s right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and said Iran`s cooperation will bode well for future nuclear talks and Iran` access to nuclear technology. The foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany also expressed their country`s readiness to cooperate with Iran to ensure stability and security in the Middle East notably in the aim of ridding the region of the menace of nuclear weapons. He said the Tehran deceleration was widely welcomed by the international community, `which is indicative of Iran` successful initiative`. "Iran, in line with the declaration, has submitted a full report on its nuclear activities to the nuclear watchdog agency," he added. He also expressed hope the upcoming IAEA governing council on November 20 will lead to a positive outcome. The French ambassador representing the three European countries, thanked the Foreign Ministry for its cooperation. In a related news, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here on Sunday Iran is studying the suspension of its uranium enrichment plans with a view to stopping them. Asefi, speaking at his weekly press conference, said there is no difference in the interpretation of Iran and Europe over the issue of stopping uranium enrichment plans. "The meaning of suspension is clear in that we temporarily cease enriching uranium," he said. "We have declared this to Europe. We will wait to see how this will help build confidence. However, we will not give up our right to peaceful use of nuclear energy," he declared. Last Monday, the French, German and British foreign ministers arrived in Tehran in a lightning visit at Iran`s invitation to consult with the Islamic Republic on the signing of the additional protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
