Iran presents final documents on its nuclear program to IAEA
IRNA
Vienna, Oct 23, IRNA -- Iran`s permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Akbar Salehi here on Thursday submitted the final documents on Iran`s nuclear activities to IAEA Director General Mohammad ElBaradei at his office in Vienna at noon as scheduled earlier. After the documents were submitted to ElBaradei by Salehi, the IAEA director general said that they will be examined and the final assessment will be passed on to the IAEA Board of Governors on November 20. Salehi noted that the documents give full coverage to Iran`s entire peaceful nuclear program. An Iranian envoy to IAEA had earlier told IRNA that in view of the IAEA-Iran talks and agreements during ElBaradei`s latest visit to Tehran, it was decided that Iran should submit the required information to the agency. Part of the information on Iran`s nuclear facilities were presented earlier and the remaining was submitted today. The Iranian officials had earlier declared that the required information will be submitted to the agency within a few days. Announcing its readiness for cooperation with IAEA, Iran had underlined its legitimate right to peaceful application of nuclear energy. Simultaneous with the visit of the foreign ministers of three EU member states to Tehran and negotiation on Iran`s full cooperation with the agency on Tuesday, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani declared that Iran`s right to peaceful access to nuclear energy had been underlined during the talks. According to SNSC secretary, the negotiations focused on three issues, namely the speedy signing and implementation of the Additional Protocol, Iran`s full cooperation with IAEA and suspension of the full process of uranium enrichment and its recycling. Once international concerns, including those of the three governments, are fully removed, Iran could expect easier access to modern technology and supplies in a range of areas. "Iran took the decision to temporarily suspend its uranium enrichment process to prove its good intention and to win the world confidence. "We believe that the recent interactions are significant achievements for the world community towards promotion of peace and security," Rowhani declared. Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi had also announced earlier Iran`s determination to continue its trend of confidence-building with IAEA. The IAEA Board of Governors had set October 31 as the deadline for Iran to present full information to the agency on its nuclear activities, while Iran had declared that it didn`t feel committed to meet the date due to illegitimacy of the trend of issuing the related resolution.
