Mirdamadi says Iran`s decision to join NPT protocol is logical
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA -- Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohsen Mirdamadi said here on Wednesday that Iran`s decision to accept the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) was logical and to-the-point. Mirdamadi told IRNA that all officials had had a role in the decision-making process. "In my opinion, the decision Iran made yesterday had been logical and in line with national interests," said the MP. He insisted on Iran`s peaceful use of nuclear energy. "We have repeatedly announced that we have no plan to use nuclear nuclear technology for military purposes and want the technology for peaceful purposes. What European ministers asked us was in fact the conditions which would give such an assurance to the world," said Mirdamadi. He said the decision was to some extent belated, adding that however, acceptance of the NPT additional protocol would result in resolving Iran-IAEA issues. Iran announced it would sign a protocol to a non-proliferation treaty which will allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to carry out surprise visits to suspect facilities. Tehran also promised `full transparency`, reiterated its commitment to the treaty and said it would voluntarily suspend all uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities. Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Hojatoleslam Hassan Rowhani told reporters here on Tuesday after quadrilateral talks with three major EU foreign ministers that Iran would join the NPT additional protocol not sooner than November 20. 216/AH/210 End
