President Khatami: Iran never seeks nuclear weapons
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami stressed here Wednesday Iran`s peaceful nuclear activities and said Iran never seeks nuclear weapons. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the cabinet`s session, Khatami underlined the recent meeting between foreign ministers of France, Britain and Germany in Tehran and Iran`s agreement to join the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. If Iran were after acquiring nuclear weapons, its agreement to join the NPT additional protocol would mean imposition of restrictions on the country, Khatami said, adding "But since we have not been following this course (acquiring nuclear weapons), therefore we have not lost anything." Peaceful nuclear technology means converting ore into uranium 3.5 percent for the fuel of nuclear power plants, the president noted. "This is our demand and we will not give up our right at all," he stressed. SF/212 End
