EU: Path open for stronger relations with Iran

Brussels, Oct 21, IRNA -- EU`s foreign and security policy chief 
Javier Solana Tuesday voiced his happiness in a first reaction to the 
news from Tehran that the Islamic Republic had decided to sign the 
additional protocol to the NPT. 
"We are extremely pleased. It is very good news we are receiving 
from Tehran," Solana`s spokeswoman, Cristina Gallach, told IRNA. 
"It is a very important step from Iran It will pave the way for 
two things, defusing the EU-Iran crisis which was looming on the 
horizon, and secondly it opens the way for stronger relations with 
Iran in all the fields economy, trade cooperation and political," she
added. 
European Commission spokesman for external relations, Diegos de 
Ojeda said, "We are looking at the news with a positive impression. 
"This seems to be a very good step to the fulfillment of our 
objectives as key to our developments of relations with Iran," he told
IRNA. 
"If and when the news is confirmed it will very much have a 
positive impact across the board on ties with Iran," said de Ojeda. 
He added, "We are looking forward to hearing from IAEA that Iran 
is fully cooperating with its conditions."
