Army Ground Forces to hold 3 major maneuvers in border areas

Tehran, Oct 15, IRNA -- Commander of the Ground Forces of the Army Brigadier-General Nasser Mohammadifar said here on Wednesday that the forces will start three major maneuvers in border areas in northwest and southeast of the country on Thursday. Mohammadifar told IRNA that the maneuvers will be held on an area of 12,000 square kilometers, stressing that they are meant to boost Iran`s defense readiness by using modern combat techniques and new military hardware and software facilities. He said the maneuvers will involve heliborne operations, movement of army`s special forces, using the support of the artillery and missile units, as well as the helicopters and fighter jets of the Air Force. Mohammadifar said the Ground Forces will start the Tondar Maneuver in the western province of Kurdestan concurrent with the Yavaran-e Mahdi (AS) Maneuver in the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan. He added that the Forces will then proceed on the maneuver of armored and infantry units that have been stationed in the southern and eastern parts of the country. The commander further added that the final stage of Tondar Maneuver will be implemented on Friday. Mohammadifar also said that the maneuvers will be guided by the tactical headquarters of the Ground Forces in Kurdestan by employing the capabilities of electronic war and the most up-to-date combat tactics.
