IRNA
Tehran, Oct 11, IRNA -- Visiting Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Trubnikov conferred here Saturday with Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani on expansion of mutual cooperation. At the meeting, Rowhani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to broaden ties with Moscow adding that Bushehr Atomic Power Plant is manifestation of scientific, technical, economic and strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia. Atomic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia is based on international regulations and conventions, Rowhani said. The Islamic Republic of Iran is to fully observe and implement NPT, safeguard agreement, transparency as well as comprehensive cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he said. It is the duty of industrial countries to render peaceful technological assistance to other countries and their refusal to cooperate with the Islamic Republic of Iran is a blatant violation of NPT by industrial countries, he said. Recent resolution issued by IAEA Board of Governors goes against the NPT and even the letter of association of the agency, he said adding that Iran`s policy is based on removal of misunderstandings with friendly countries and pursuing the policy of mutual confidence-building. The Islamic Republic of Iran is principally against proliferation and application of nuclear weapons, Rowhani said. Condemning the political motives of some countries such as the United States of America, he said Iran will not hesitate to safeguard the rights and interests of its people. He called mutual cooperation between Iran and Russia on Caspian Sea legal regime, security and environment protection as significant adding that foreign military forces have no right to enter the Caspian Sea and the security of the sea should be maintained by the Caspian Sea littoral states, he said. Restoration of stability, security and developments in the war-shattered Afghanistan is vital for the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia, he said and called for mutual strategic cooperation on Afghanistan and Iraq. Expressing concern over insecurity, lack of sanitation and shattered economic situation in Iraq, he called smuggling of weapons as a new dangerous phenomenon and said if the Americans even doubled their forces in Iraq, they would not be able to restore security in the country. Unilateral policy has proved a failure in Iraq and the US troops has no alternative but to withdraw from the country and let the Iraqis administer their own affairs, he said. The Russian envoy, for his part, highlighted the common positions of the two sides on international issues and said the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia believe in unipolar system in running the world under supervision of the United Nations. Russia believes that to resolve issue of Iraq, the country`s integrity and sovereignty should be restored and people play the main roles in administrating the affairs under the supervision of the United Nations, he said. The US has failed to resolve the issues in Afghanistan and Iraq, he said. Mutual cooperation between Iran and Russia in resolving regional crisis, campaign against drug trafficking, terrorism would lead to restoration of peace, stability and security both in the region and in the world, he said and called for collective cooperation between Afghan neighbors to help create a security belt around the country. Atomic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia is of peaceful nature and under the framework of international treaties, he said adding that Moscow will continue its cooperation with Tehran and will not be effected by third countries.
