Cooperation with IAEA on agenda, Salehi says
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- Iranian Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Akbar Salehi here on Tuesday said that cooperation with the UN agency is on the agenda. Speaking in the conference on "Iran and Atomic Energy" in Sharif Industrial University, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran has decided to cooperate with the IAEA and reach a settlement with the UN watchdog. Iran is for peaceful application of atomic energy and at the same time determined to remove the artificial crisis over the national program, Salehi said. Iran is not for nuclear arms, he said adding that Iran regards as `absolutely illogical` the idea that nuclear weapon is `deterrent` to threats. Asked whether or not signing the additional protocol to the NPT will end anti-Iran propaganda campaign, he said the controversy over Iranian national program to generate electricity from nuclear energy is being raised for political objectives, so, signing or not signing the additional protocol will make no difference. The US raises the controversy over Iranian nuclear program in a series of attempts to orchestrate a consensus against the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said. He called the recent negotiations with the IAEA officials as satisfactory and expressed the hope that the talks would bear fruits within coming weeks. MM/215 End
