Iran has no plans to withdraw from NPT
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 7, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Tehran observes the provisions
of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and has no plans to withdraw
from the Treaty, said Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi.
In his speech published on Tuesday in which Kharrazi addressed the
Iranian higher Islamic clergy, the foreign minister recalled the fact
that Iran was one of the initiators of this treaty.
Tehran intends to remain in the framework of this treaty unless
Tehran is deprived of its legitimate rights or if a situation arises
that might demand a serious and urgent settlement, Kharrazi said.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed that no one has the right to
create obstacles that might prevent the Iranian people from getting
advanced technologies.
Iran remains adherent to all its international agreements and
remains within the boundaries of international laws and rules,
including the IAEA Charter, the minister said.
Nonetheless, Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful
purposes, Kharrazi said. Iran has violated no international laws in
any of its nuclear projects, the minister stressed.
Iran comes out against production, possession and use of nuclear
weapons. It was Tehran that initiated the idea that the Middle East
should be spared such weapons because `they absolutely contravene our
Islamic and ethic norms`.
Proceeding from the Iranian Doctrine of national security Iran
believes that nuclear weapons will not contribute to strengthening its
own security, the minister declared.
