Iran will accept additional protocol on condition

IRNA

Noshahr, Mazandaran prov, Oct 4, IRNA -- Information Minister Ali
Younesi said here on Saturday that Iran will accept conditionally the
additional protocol to non-proliferation treaty (NPT).
He told reporters that national sovereignty and dignity of the
Islamic Republic should be respected in the context of the additional
protocol.
He said that there is a national consensus on the use of nuclear
energy for generating electricity and at the same time any attempt to
produce nuclear arms in forbidden by Islam and the ethical structure
of the Islamic Republic.
Younesi said that Iran, a signatory to the NPT, has planned to
gain access to nuclear technology and that the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA) is required by its charter to offer assistance to
Iran.
"The United States knows well that Iran neither wants nor has the
capability to produce nuclear arms," Younesi said.
"They are against the economic development and prosperity of the
Iranian nation. They even block the purchase of passenger planes to
replace the ageing air fleet," he said.
