FM spokesman: Iran to declare its stance on IAEA resolution in due time

IRNA

Tehran, Sept 21, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi
here on Sunday, referring to the efforts underway to keep up-dated on
death file of an Iranian national, Keyvan Tabesh, killed by the
Canadian police, regretted the dual policy taken by the Canadian
government towards the issue, despite its assurance of cooperation.
Speaking to reporters, he added that the Canadian government has
not informed Iran of the facts and details of the case despite the
fact that the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa has been commissioned to
follow up the issue and make sure that the responsible parties
are punished.
Tabesh, an 18-year-old Iranian, was killed in Vancuover at 02:00
a.m. on July 14 as the police raided three Iranian nationals who were
on their way home, which also resulted in the injury of another
Iranian citizen, Amir Aqaie, who had been residing in Canada for three
years.
In reply to a reporter`s question on the letter written jointly by
the governments of France, Britain and Germany to the Iranian
officials declaring their readiness for nuclear cooperation with
Iran, he said that Iran`s foreign policy welcomes any proposal for
joint atomic cooperation and establishment of power plants.
"It is quite obvious that Iran`s nuclear programs are aimed at
peaceful purposes and we have declared that even Western and
American companies can collaborate with us in the field," he added.
Asefi said that Iran`s position towards the resolution passed
recently against Iran by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
Board of Governors giving Iran an October 31 deadline to prove it had
no secret atomic weapons program, is still being examined and that
Iran`s final stance will be declared in due time.
Concerning the allegations of US Defense Secretary Donald Ramsfeld
and the American top Administrator of Iraq Paul Bremer accusing Iran
of interference in Iraq`s domestic affairs and contributing to its
insecurity, he said, "Given the US failure in establishing security in
Iraq, there is no wonder for it to accuse others and get away with
it."
Following growing US pressure for action against Iran, the
35-nation IAEA board of governors passed a resolution setting the
deadline.
Turning to the latest position of Iran`s former ambassador to
Argentina Hadi Soleimanpour, he said that the verdict issued by
Argentine tribunal was a political move.
He added that the unprecedented political measure was taken by
Argentina`s Judiciary in line with the interests of the Zionist
regime.
"The two court hearings in London ending up in Soleimanpour`s
release on bail justified Iran`s position in this respect," he added.
The official hoped that Britain will not commit such a mistake
and that the case will be closed as soon as possible.
Replying to a correspondent on Iran`s latest stance towards the
Palestine Authority (PA) with reference to Majlis speaker`s phone
conversation with President Yasser Arafat, he said that Iran
considers PA as part of the Palestinian nation and denounced he
likelihood of pressurizing it.
