Supreme Leader: Armed forces rely on people`s sentiments to defend country

Tehran, Sept 20, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution 
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that the armed forces, 
by relying upon the sentiments of the people, are strongly fulfilling 
their heavy responsibility of defending the country. 
In his address to the officers of the Navy Academy, the Supreme 
Leader said that self-confidence, self-sufficiency and bravery are the
means to defend the country against the greed of the malevolent 
powers. 
The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces said that the Army of 
the Islamic Republic, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and 
the Basij (volunteer forces) would press ahead with their obligation 
to safeguard independence of the great nation and defend the country. 
The Supreme Leader said that the young officers have set a record 
in bringing honors for the nation and the country and that every 
individual in the rank and file of the armed forces is expected to 
rely on innate talents to help the army gain strength day by day. 
"Global plunderers have been forced to get their hands off Iran. 
That`s why they have embarked on hostility towards the Islamic 
Republic," the Supreme Leader said. 
"God willing, through solidarity of the nation and officials and 
the people`s sentiments toward the armed forces, enmity with Islam and
Iran will bring nothing for the arrogant powers except failure and 
despair," the Supreme Leader said. 
The Supreme Leader also inspected an exhibit of the achievements 
of the Navy in the scientific, research, industrial and defensive 
fields. 
The Supreme Leader awarded the top graduates of the Navy Academy 
with academic title. 
Vessels and underwater hardware, different types of choppers and 
unmanned planes, electronic hardware and telecommunications devices 
are on display in the Navy exhibit. 
Meanwhile, in a meeting with commanders of the Air forces, Navy nd
Ground Forces, the Supreme Leader appreciated the progress the Navy 
made and said that the Navy should proceed with the progress 
regardless of the eye-catching achievements. 
"Sense of dependence on the others makes the nations poor. 
Self-confidence, and relying on innate talents are the key to the 
progress of the nation," the Supreme Leader said. 
"The enemy makes every effort to humiliate the Iranian nation. 
But, the children of the nation in the academic centers have acquired 
the technology to produce embryonic cells. Therefore, the nation 
possesses every means to achieve higher progress," the Supreme Leader 
said. 
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces appreciated the close 
cooperation between the navy of the Army and the navy of the IRGC. 
While inspection of the Navy Academy and the exhibit, Commanders 
of the Navy Abbas Mohtaj, the General Commander of the Army of the 
Islamic Republic Major General Salimi briefed the Supreme Leader on 
the programs of the armed forces for updating the equipment and 
training of personnel. 
The Navy conducted a test launch of the domestically built vessel,
Mouj in Bandar Abbas concurrent with the Supreme Leader`s inspection 
of the naval exhibit.
