Karroubi terms as political IAEA`s resolution on Iran
IRNA
Tehran, Sept 17, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi here Wednesday termed as `political` the resolution issued by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against Iran`s nuclear activities. The IAEA Board of Governors last Friday set an October 31 deadline for Iran to prove it is pursuing peaceful nuclear programs. The resolution that was submitted by Canada, Japan and Australia also calls on Tehran to clarify its nuclear program by the end of October and to suspend its uranium enrichment program. Addressing the 15th Nationwide Congress of IRGC Commanders and Officials, Karroubi stressed on the policy of detente and non-interference in nations` affairs, adding that the Iranian people will never tolerate bullying. The Iranian nation will never accept dominance of any foreign government, he reiterated, adding it has struggled for many years in order to be the decision-maker of its destination not to be controlled by others. The Majlis speaker said that the nation will defend the country`s rights, territorial integrity and independence. Though there would be differences in political viewpoints and tastes among different groups in the country, they would never relinquish independence at any cost, he said. No one can compel governments to ignore their nations` rights, he added. Karroubi further pointed to the Islamic instructions, and said that "we are opposed to atomic bombs but consider scientific use of nuclear technology as the nation`s right." FM/210 End
