Iran says allowed IAEA inspectors to take samples at nuke sites
IRNA
Tehran, Sept 1, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here on Monday that Iran has allowed inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take samples at its nuclear sites, and described this as a major development. Asefi said at his weekly press briefing that Iran`s readiness to sign the Additional Protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) had been another very important development, stressing that this was a sign of Iran`s goodwill. "Other parties should also be sincere and fair in dealing with [Iran`s nuclear energy programs], and never allow it to be politicized," he said. "What is involved in this issue is a professional work." The Islamic Republic is already a signatory to the NPT. However, the IAEA is refusing to provide Iran with the nuclear expertise that under the agency`s regulations it is entitled to receive. The Iranian authorities have said that Tehran has always had a positive attitude toward the protocol, adding that Iran asks for removing of restrictions imposed by the West and getting access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Iran`s Foreign Ministry spokesman further stressed that if other parties also adopt sincerity toward Iran`s nuclear energy programs, no problem would ever remain unresolved. AA/210 End
