Iran, China review expansion of mutual ties

Beijing, Aug 26, IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi conferred here Tuesday with the Chinese Deputy Prime Minister and the Chinese Head of Iran-China Economic Commission Wu Yi on expansion of economic and industrial cooperation. Kharrazi said the Islamic Republic of Iran with reliance upon its work forces and benefiting from extensive economic potentials is making endeavors to reach an economic boom. The Islamic Republic of Iran gives priorities to transportation, construction of dams, power plants, petrochemical industry along with gas and oil projects, he said. Iran`s Free Trade Zones (FTZ) benefiting from excellent situation have been successful to attract foreign investors and the ground for investment of China is well prepared, Kharrazi pointed out. Welcoming the increase of investment by Chinese firms, he said China`s cooperation in oil and gas industries is of high importance for long term exports of the products to China which can guarantee a lasting ties. The Iranian minister voiced Iran`s readiness to cooperate on technical and engineering services with the Chinese side. The Chinese deputy prime minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction over volume of trade exchange between the two countries adding that China attaches importance to expansion of economic and technical cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Volume of trade exchange between Iran and China stood over dlrs three billion which is considered as a record in mutual economic ties, she said adding that for that reason China has imposed a preferential tariff for Iranian made products. The Chinese government encourages Chinese companies to share in the Third Five-Year Economic Development Plan, she said. Describing the quality of the Iranian made products as good, she underlined the willingness of China for import of non-oil commodities from Iran. Highlighting new methods to boost economic cooperation, she said the Chinese firms are eager to invest and broaden economic activities in Iran`s FTZ`s. Given the importance on oil cooperation, she underlined the need to form a follow-up committee to pursue mutual cooperation on energy sector. On holding Iran-China joint economic commission meeting in China this year, the two sides exchanged views on supporting private sector as well as the chambers of commerce of Iran and China.
