Iran says its arms programs meant for defense purposes
Tehran, July 21, IRNA -- Iran said on Monday that it is pursuing
deterrence in its arms programs, stressing that the new Shahab-3
missile poses no threat against others.
"As we have already declared, Iran's arms are meant for the
purposes of defense and deterrence," Foreign Ministry spokesman
Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters at his weekly news briefing.
Asefi added that the issue of delivery of Shahab-3 missile
to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)" is no new issue."
He stressed that Iran's defense program is no threat against
other countries, adding that the Islamic Republic has already shown
this over the past 25 years.
"The remarks [on Iran's threatening others] is the propaganda of
the Zionist regime," he said.
"The Zionist regime has no right to question why Iran is
developing the Shahab-3 missile because it is not in a position to
comment in that connection given that it, itself, possesses hundreds
of nuclear warheads."
