Iran, Russia discuss nuclear cooperation

Moscow, May 27, IRNA -- Iran's ambassador to Moscow, Gholam-Reza
Shafei, in a meeting with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy
Mamedov here on Tuesday discussed bilateral nuclear cooperation.
The two sides also exchanged views on various other issues such as
the crises in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the upcoming D-8 summit
in France.
Shafei and Mamedov referred to the regular meetings between
officials of the two states on peaceful application of atomic energy
and the active participation of Moscow and Tehran in the international
anti-terrorism campaign and stressed the need to broaden exchange of
views.
At the meeting, the Iranian diplomat pointed to the unilateral US
measures on the international scene and called for the UN pivotal role
in the post-war Iraq.
He hoped that the D-8 summit in France will be held under a
multilateral atmosphere and within the framework of international
law and regulations.
Turning to growing drug production in Afghanistan, the two sides
underlined the need to tackle the issue on bilateral, regional and
international levels.
