u>IRAN NEWS 02 August 1998

TEHRAN - Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Akhoundzadeh, was quoted in Islamabad Friday as saying that no nuclear cooperation exists between Iran and Pakistan. According to the Urdu-language `Khabarin' newspaper, the ambassador also ruled out possibility of any such cooperation between the two countries in future. The Iranian diplomat stressed that Iran's missile program is solely aimed at defensive purposes. This is despite the fact that Israel has always been threatening Iran, Akhoundzadeh said, quoted by IRNA. He further noted that the recent successful test of Shahab-3 missile by Iran poses no threat for neighboring countries.
