SU1U.S. OPPOSITION TO IRANIAN LOANS REQUIRED BY LAW
TWashington -- The United States is required to vote against loans from international financial institution to any country on the State Department's list of countries supporting terrorism, which includes Iran, the department said March 19.
On March 14, the World Bank executive board approved a $250 million loan to Iran for use in reconstruction of areas destroyed by last year's earthquake. Only the United States voted against the loan.
The State Department said that, consistent with other provisions of U.S. legislation, the United States provided disaster relief assistant to Iran following the June, 1990 earthquake.
