  • MoD signs Rs 473 crore contract with GSL for construction of eight Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard India PIB 28 Mar 2022 -- Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for construction of eight Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard at a total project cost of Rs 473 crore. The contract was signed by Joint Secretary (Maritime & Systems) Shri Dinesh Kumar and Chairman & Managing Director, GSL Cmde BB Nagpal (Retd) in New Delhi on March 28, 2022.
  • Indigenous Defence Production India PIB 28 Mar 2022 -- Two Positive Indigenisation Lists comprising 101 and 108 items were promulgated by Department of Military Affairs (DMA)/Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 21st August, 2020 and 31st May 2021 respectively. The lists have been hosted on Ministry of Defence website to give wide visibility to the Defence Industrial base in enabling them to effectively meet requirement of the Armed Forces. Of these, 153 items are planned to be indigenized upto December, 2022. There is no stoppage on their exports.

  • Nodal Agency to test and Certify Defence Equipment India PIB 28 Mar 2022 -- As part of the annual Budget for 2022-23 an announcement has been made to set up an independent nodal umbrella body for meeting wide ranging testing and certification requirements. The nodal body is envisaged to be an autonomous body to permit, promote, hand-hold, monitor & supervise and act as a Single-Window Nodal agency to enable and regulate the existing facilities of Trial, Testing and Certification of Defence Products, besides creating new facilities.
  • TASK FORCE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF AI India PIB 28 Mar 2022 -- To study the whole gamut of issues surrounding strategic implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in national security perspective, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Department of Defence Production (DDP) set up a multi-stakeholder Task Force in March 2018 under the Chairmanship of Sh.   • DRDO successfully flight tests Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile off Odisha coast India PIB 27 Mar 2022 -- Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two successful flight tests of the Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 27, 2022. The flight tests were carried out as part of the live firing trials against high-speed aerial targets. The missiles intercepted the aerial targets and destroyed them completely, registering direct hits at both the ranges. The first launch was to intercept a medium altitude long range target and second launch was for proving the capability of a low altitude short range target.
  • Indian Army Successfully Test-Fires Surface-to-Air Defence Missile Sputnik 27 Mar 2022 -- The nation's medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) system provides air defence against aerial threats like fighter aircraft, UAVs, guided and unguided munitions, and cruise missiles. It is capable of engaging multiple targets at ranges of up to 70 kilometres.

  • CONTRACT SIGNING WITH M/S LARSEN & TOUBRO LTD, MUMBAI FOR ACQUISITION OF TWO MULTI PURPOSE VESSELS FOR INDIAN NAVY India PIB 25 Mar 2022 -- Ministry of Defence has signed a contract on 25 Mar 22 with M/s Larsen & Toubro Ltd. for acquisition of Two Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs) for Indian Navy at an overall cost of Rs.887 Crore under "Buy-Indian" Category.
  • DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES FOR MILITARY India PIB 25 Mar 2022 -- Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) funds directed research through its DRDO Industry Academia Centre-of Excellence (DIA-COE), in the identified research areas. DRDO has established 10 Centres of Excellence in collaboration with various academia institutes all over the country to develop critical technology for enabling futuristic requirements of Armed Forces.
  • DEFENCE PRODUCTION AND EXPORT PROMOTION POLICY India PIB 25 Mar 2022 -- The Government has taken several policy initiatives in the past few years and brought in reforms to encourage indigenous design, development and manufacture of defence equipment in the country and to minimize the defence import by the Defence Public Sector Undertakings, thereby ensuring delivery of indigenous modern defence hardware to Indian Armed Forces.
  • DEFENCE EQUIPMENT CAPABILITY REVIEW MECHANISM India PIB 25 Mar 2022 -- Government has a defence equipment capability review mechanism for all three defence services. To address the current and futuristic security needs of Armed Forces, a Capability Development Plan is formulated by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff in consultation with all stakeholders. These plans are reviewed periodically and an Annual Acquisition Plan is progressed thereafter every year.
  • INNOVATIONS FOR DEFENCE EXCELLENCE INITIATIVE India PIB 25 Mar 2022 -- Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework was launched by the Government with the aim to foster innovation and technology development in Defence and Aerospace Sector by engaging Industries including MSMEs, start-ups, individual innovators, R&D institutes and academia and promote self-reliance.

  • GENDER RATIO IN NCC India PIB 25 Mar 2022 -- As per Annual Report 2018-19, against the total enrolled strength of 13,29,202 cadets, Girl Cadets were 4,23,464 constituting 31.8 % of the total enrolled cadets. To encourage enrolment of girl cadets in NCC, 'Mixed Unit" Concept was introduced in the year 2005. Before that, NCC had only Boys unit and Girls unit. Now NCC units are either Girls unit which allows girls only or Mixed units which enrolls both Boys and Girls. There is no 'Boys Only' unit.

  • Defence Corridor Projects In Tamil Nadu India PIB 21 Mar 2022 -- The Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) have been established in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu with an aim to attract over Rs 10,000 crore investment in each of the two Defence-Industrial Corridors. As per information received from Government of Uttar Pradesh, for Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), 63 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed as on date with potential investment of Rs 8,764 crore. Current actual investment in Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor is Rs 1,552 crore. Further, as per information received from Government of Tamil Nadu, in Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC), arrangements have been made through MoUs etc. for potential investment of Rs 11,103 crore by 39 industries. Current actual investment in Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor is Rs 2,217 crore. The respective State Governments provide and support development of infrastructure facilities like connecting Roads, Electricity, Water and Sewage systems etc. for the development of the corridors.
  • MARITIME COOPERATION WITH REGIONAL PARTNERS India PIB 21 Mar 2022 -- Government has developed maritime cooperation with regional partners in consonance with Government's vision of Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR). Indian Navy (IN) ships and aircraft are regularly deployed in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) to enhance maritime security and to address contingencies that may arise. In consonance with the Prime Minister's vision of 'SAGAR', IN has undertaken 08 missions to 16 Friendly Foreign Countries for transshipment of HADR relief materials, COVID supplies and food assistance. To enhance maritime cooperation, initiatives are being undertaken in the field of training, technical support, hydrography and conduct of maritime security operations.
  • Private Participation in Defence Industry India PIB 21 Mar 2022 -- Defence Industry sector, which was hitherto reserved for the public sector, was opened up to 100% for Indian private sector participation in May, 2001. So far, Government has issued a total of 568 Defence Industrial Licenses to 351 companies. Out of these, a total of 113 companies covering 170 Defence Industrial Licenses have conveyed commencement of production.
  • Setting up of New Defence Undertakings India PIB 21 Mar 2022 -- Seven new Defence Public Sector Undertakings have been set up with effect from 1st October 2021, by converting 41 production units of erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), for manufacturing of modern weapons and armament indigenously, during the last five years. Further, the Defence Industry Sector, which was hitherto reserved for the public sector, was opened up to 100% for Indian private sector participation in May 2001. In the last five years, Government has issued a total of 214 Defence Industrial Licenses to the private sector as well, out of them 43 industries have reported commencement of production.

The new factory is likely to create direct and indirect employment for around 500 people.
