Two Pilots Feared Dead as Indian Army Helicopter Crashes in Bhutan - Photos

An Indian Army helicopter crashed at 1 p.m. local time (7 a.m. GMT) near Yongphulla Airport in Bhutan, the army said in a statement.

The single-engine Cheetah helicopter was piloted by on Indian and one Royal Bhutanese Army pilots that are feared dead after the crash.

"The helicopter lost radio and visual contact soon after 1 p.m. It was en route from Khirmu (Arunanchal Pradesh) to Yongfulla on duty", Indian Army spokesperson Col. Aman Anand said.

According to the army, the cause of the crash was foggy weather.

Search and rescue operations have promptly been launched by the Indian Air Force.

Social media users have shared photos of the wreckage of the chopper.

India enjoys longstanding military cooperation with the isolationist country of Bhutan. New Delhi maintains the Indian Military Training Team, which is permanently based in Bhutan.
