India successfully test-fires BrahMos missile

New Delhi, Sep 5, IRNA -- India on Sunday Successfully test fired BrahMos cruise from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur off Orissa coast.
User's trial of BrahMos was conducted for achieving the maximum range of 290 km of the supersonic missile, said ITR Director S P Dash.
The missile can fly at 2.8 times the speed of sound carrying conventional warheads up to 300 kg for a range of 290 km and can effectively engage ground targets from an altitude as low as 10 metres.
India and Russia are jointly designing the BrahMos missile, which is capable of carrying conventional warheads upto 200-300 kg and have a range of 290 km.
The missile is named after the Brahmaputra (India) and Moskva (Russia) rivers.
