India-Nuclear Sector
Nuclear trade in India has recently revived up India's global stance, offering an efficient model for trade.
Once the negotiations with Russia, and possibly Canada in nuclear commerce talks are done with, the government will soon open up the sector for the private players to participate, said Kapil Sibal, Minister for Science & Technology & Earth Sciences in New Delhi Friday.
He was speaking at the 14th Technology Summit & Technology Platform; Leveraging Investment Opportunities in Clean Technologies, organised jointly by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
He further added, "The government of India is also working on drafting regulatory framework towards opening up the mining sector for FDI. India is in need for accessible and affordable technologies.
Technology itself is not the solution; we need to develop parallel infrastructure to run the technology. Project 800, is one such idea conceived by the Ministry of Science and Technology, aimed at providing technological solutions to people living on less than $ 2 per day. This reflects the need for global community to not just to think but act locally."
He listed three key issues for which India needs global solutions as, restructuring the global structure post recent economic meltdown, dealing with terrorism and global warming.
He called for innovative methods for generating renewable energy, agricultural optimization, and innovations in technological upgradations.
He asked overseas delegates to explore joint venture opportunities with Indian counterparts.
Delivering a Canadian perspective of technology alliance, Joseph Caron, High Commissioner, Canadian High Commission, said, "Canadian Commerce Strategy issued in June 2008, highlights technological cooperation and opportunities in key markets like India.
Canada is working on increased energy efficacy demands.
India-Canada, Nanotech and Biotech centers are being explored, and a combined funding of $ 17 million has been received.
Both the economies can indulge in business in the fields of Aerospace, biofuel, biotech, and nanotech amongst others.
