India-NSG Waiver
India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee Saturday described NSG waiver a historic development.

The Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) ended India's nuclear isolation on Saturday by giving it a clean waiver for nuclear trade.

"It is a landmark in our quest for energy needs" a development of major significance to global energy security," Mukherjee told a press conference in New Delhi. "This decision will open a new chapter in India's co-operation with other countries in nuclear energy," he added.

The minister said the final outcome of the negotiations at NSG meets India's expectations and fully complies with the policy adopted by the government. It is also consistent with India's national interest, he added.

While welcoming the development, Mukherjee expressed deep appreciation for the US, France, the UK, Russia, and previous and present chairs of the NSG for their efforts. "President (George W) Bush and Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh's) efforts led to this," he added.
