India-Trust Vote-Mayawati
Claiming that the Indo-US civil nuclear deal was a step to make India a "slave" of the United States, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mrs. Mayawati Monday said that the deal would also "hamper" the USD 7.4 billion Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project.
"The government and the prime minister should not make the deal a prestige issue. The deal would also "hamper" IPI gas pipeline project as the US was acting against Tehran in a dangerous manner," she told a press conference in New Delhi.
Linking the Indo-US deal with the Iran-US standoff over Iran's peaceful nuclear program, the Bahujan Samaj Party Chief (BSP) Mayawati said, "The whole world has to face the consequences of a war between the US and Iran and the blame for it will fall on the UPA government if it goes ahead with the deal."
Holding the UPA and Congress "guilty" for going ahead with the deal, she said New Delhi should assert itself for a permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.
