Indian government refused to comment on a media report quoting unidentified US official as saying that New Delhi was greedy and demanding too much in the civil nuclear deal.

"I have seen some minor details in the report. Unless I see substance, I will not say anything," India's External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters in a media briefing.

He added that India's position on the civil nuclear deal issue has been explained on several occasions.

A US media report citing some unidentified administration official, said that India was greedy and making demands that would increase its military nuclear capabilities, instead of lessening these as Washington wants.

The report had also quoted US Under Secretary Nicholas Burns as saying there is a degree of frustration in Washington that the Indian government has not engaged seriously enough with both the US and IAEA.

The remarks are seen in India as an US attempt to push India to give up its position on issues of reprocessing and future nuclear tests.

During the recent talks in New Delhi, India refused to give in on any of the issues that it considers a compromise the its national sovereignty, which could be the reason for such statements from Washington.
