India signs 2 agreements with International Energy Agency

India-IEA-Agreements
India has signed two agreements with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to strengthen mutual cooperation in the field of energy.
According to an All India Radio (AIR) report, the two pacts are the Greenhouse Gases and Research and Development (R&D) Technology Agreement and the IEA-DSM (Demand Side Management) Implementing Agreement.
The state-run NTPC Ltd has been nominated as the nodal agency for representing India's interest in the Greenhouse Gases and R&D Technology Agreement while the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is the nodal agency for IEA-DSM Implementing Agreement.
Power Secretary R V Shahi, after the agreements were signed in New Delhi, said the countries' cooperation would further facilitate meaningful research in areas of mutual interest with a view to achieving technical and economic efficiency through introduction of environment friendly and sound technologies.
The IEA Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Programme is aimed at developing new technologies specifically for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The IEA Demand Side Management Programme is an international collaboration with 17 IEA member countries and the European Commission working to clarify and promote opportunities for Demand Side Management.
