India tests 'Pilotless Target Aircraft'

The indigenously built Pilotless Target Aircraft (PTA), 'Lakshya', was successfully test flown today from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea, in eastern state of Orissa.

According to ITR sources, the Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) was test flown from the launch complex at 1236 hours, UNI reported.

The sources said it was a developed engine version, which had been used as an aerial reconnaissance of the battle field, including target acquisition.

The 'Lakshya' aircraft had already been inducted into the defense forces, the sources said. It has been tested three times the previous ar and this was the first time since the beginning of the year 2007.
