As Washington debates its nuclear deal with India, top US business leaders will meet Indian senior officials, including from the Atomic Energy Commission, in the next two days to discuss various issues related to the pact.
Representatives of 30 construction and engineering firms, currently attending an Indo-US business meet in Mumbai, will study the Indian nuclear industry, US Under-Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Franklin Lavin told reporters in Mumbai, a PTI report said here.
"We think it is important to have discussions with the Indian nuclear industry and officials of the Atomic Energy Commission to iron out details in order to proceed faster once the deal comes through clearly," Lavin said.
He said several hurdles have to be cleared, including the reconciliation process, and the negotiations seeking India's exemption from Sections 1-3 of the bill. This needs amendments in the US Atomic Energy Act and NSG norms, he said.
"We will be holding discussions with AEC Chairman Anil Kakodkar and NPCIL officials and will also meet Indian special envoy Shyam Saran in New Delhi," he said.
Lavin said the US has realized that India will be buying the nuclear reactors only as "additionals" but at the same time India is also a huge market for nuclear energy.
