N-deal with India within July, 2005 agreement: US official

US Secretary of State Condoleca Rice has confirmed that whatever agreement goes through between India and United States on their nuclear deal would be within the framework of the July 18, 2005 agreement.

Secretary Rice also expressed hope the deal would go through in the near future while meeting Indian members of a parliamentary delegation which recently concluded a six-day visit to the US, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said in a press release issued here today.

In the meeting with Rice, the delegation discussed Indo-US relations, specifically the civil nuclear deal.

Concluding their six-day visit to the US which included New York, Washington DC and Atlanta, the nine members of the delegation from the Indian parliament found very positive sentiment in the US towards India.

In fact, there was excitement among all persons and organizations, governmental and non-governmental, about the new level of Indo-US relationship, the press release said.

The delegation met a wide cross-section of the American people and officialdom including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Pentagon officials, National Security Council members, think-tank, health research agency and business organization officials, the local media as well as Indian Americans and the positive sentiment pervaded through the entire range of discussions.

The visit by the delegation of MPs, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), plans to institutionalize the program and organize parliamentary delegations to the US on a regular basis.

Members of the delegation included Shahid Siddiqui (Samajwadi Party), Baijayant Jay Panda (Biju Janata Dal-BJD), Prema Cariappa Indian National Congress (INC), Kiran Pasricha, CII deputy director-general, Vikram Badshah, CII senior consultant and Tarina Basu, CII executive officer.
