India-Nepal-Election
The Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has sealed the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to check the 'spill over' of any problem occurring in the Himalayan Kingdom.
The SSB has also deployed 20 battalions along the 1751-km Indo- Nepal border since yesterday in view of the elections in Nepal, PTI report said here Tuesday.
"A lot of incidents and problems may crop up on that side of the border during municipal elections tomorrow. Our forces will keep vigil to check spill over of any such problems to our side," Inspector General Kulbir Krishan said.
This arrangement will continue for about a week, he said.
Krishan said many leaders who are contesting elections in Nepal have crossed over to India in the last few weeks for 'safety' and 'security' and they will be returning now.
"They have come over to India for shelter," he said. In fact, there is no need for any visa for Nepalese people to cross over to India, he added.
Earlier over two dozen panicky contestants withdrew their nominations from Nepal's forthcoming municipal polls following blasts at the homes of a minister and two candidates by Maoist rebels on Sunday.
Meanwhile at least eight security personnel and one Maoist were killed in an overnight attack by the rebels at two places in Nepal on the eve of the municipal polls announced by King Gyanendra.
The Maoists have intensified their attacks across Nepal on the eve of tomorrow's municipal polls, which they have vowed to disrupt.
All schools, colleges, markets, factories and industries remained closed and public and private, vehicles did not ply except for a few buses guarded by security personnel.
