New Delhi, Sept 12, IRNA
India-US-Naval Exercise
Indian and US naval personnel will jointly conduct "Salvex", the first combined diving and salvage exercise being conducted between the two navies, off Kochi as of Monday.

The two navies regularly conduct the "Malabar" series of bilateral exercises and "Salvex" is being conducted as part of this ongoing cooperation, `The Asian Age' reported quoting a naval statement here Sunday.

The 12-day exercise will conclude on September 23.

The US naval ship USS Safeguard is participating in the exercise, while a diving team and INS Matanga will represent the Indian Navy.

The exercise would include the deployment of underwater combined salvage teams.

The India-US strategic partnership has seen an upswing in the aftermath of the conclusion of the deal over civilian nuclear reactors in July this year.

The Indo-US joint cooperation in defensive preparation is part of the next step of Indo-US strategic cooperation that has changed US attitude toward nuclear India in post-1998 era.
