India-Nuke Reactors
Eight new nuclear reactors were under construction in the country while one reactor in Tarapur had been synchronized with the grid last month, Union government told in Parliament.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on wednesday, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chauhan said the completion of the eight reactors over the tenth and eleventh Five- Year Plans would add 1,300 megawatts and 3,160 megawatts respectively to the total capacity.

In India, electricity generated from nuclear power amounted to 2.9 percent of the total power generation.

In comparison, it was 20 percent in the United States, 32 percent in Germany, 29 percent in Japan and 19 percent in Britain, he said.

The power generation target for the Tenth Plan was 82,495 million units.

Meanwhile, defence minister Pranab Mukherjee said the new framework for the Indo-US defence relationship provides for collaboration in multi-national operations, but added there was no proposal to deploy Indian troops in any such operation.

The framework, signed on June 28, provides for co-production of defence equipment and collaboration in multi-national operations.
