India discusses radiological security with US, IAEA

New Delhi, Feb 11, IRNA -- A joint delegation of representatives from the US Department of Energy and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) toured India on February 9 regarding the first India-US-IAEA meeting on the Regional Radiological Security Partnership (RRSP) program. According to a press release by India`s Ministry of External Affairs, a copy of which was received by IRNA, both the US and the IAEA representatives welcomed India`s role in the RRSP program in its capacity of a regional partner. The two sides agreed to secure the global scenario of the radiological materials. India offered the US and the IAEA delegates the infrastructure and the expertise for conducting international training courses in India under the aegis of the IAEA on issues related to the security of radiological sources and materials and also for locating neglected radioactive sources in countries which are unable to effectively deal with them and which seek assistance from the IAEA.
