India testfires surface-to-air Trishul missile

New Delhi, Sept 15, IRNA -- Trishul, India`s most sophisticated and indigenous short-range missile, was successfully testfired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, about 15 from Balasore in the eastern Indian state of Orissa, on Wednesday, defense sources said. According to local media reports, the surface-to-air missile indigenously developed by India`s Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO), was testfired from a mobile launcher at about 2:15 p.m. (local time), defense sources said. The solid fuel-propelled Trishul missile has a triple battlefield role for the army, air force and navy and has a range of nine km, with the capacity of carrying a payload of 15 kg and has been developed to suit the needs of all the three defense services in India, the sources added. The missile, three meters long and 200 cm in diameter, is part of India`s Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP). 2160/2321/1432
