IRNA
Islamabad, Dec 30, IRNA - Indian Foreign Secretary Sheshank said Tuesday that Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is likely to meet Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali during the SAARC summit, official media said. Sheshank who reached Pakistan through the Wagha Checkpost told reporters that issues facing the region would be discussed in the summit. About the scope of discussing bilateral issues, Sheshank said they could also be taken up after Pakistan meets Indian "demands", state APP news agency reported. When asked whether India would discuss the issue of Kashmir with the Pakistani leadership, he said: "It is different in Indian and Pakistani perspectives." Pakistan said on Monday that there was no confirmation yet of President General Pervez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee`s meeting during upcoming SAARC summit in Islamabad. In the weekly briefing, the Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Ahmed Khan said so far there was no confirmation of Musharraf-Vajpayee meeting on sidelines of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation on January 4-6. However, he was quick to add that Vajpayee said in recent days that he would be happy to meet Pakistani leadership, including Pakistani clear. "We did not get a clear indication about precise intention of Prime Minister Vajpayee," the spokesman said hoping that there will be a meeting between the two leaders, the spokesman remarked. The summit earlier this year was postponed, as India could not confirm its participation because of tense Pak-India relations. There has been a debate and guess work going on in Pakistan and India whether or not there would be a Musharraf-Vajpayee rendezvous, the first after Agra summit in 2001, which remained inconclusive as far as their common approach on solution of Kashmir was concerned.
