Vajpayee says Pakistan agreed to border ceasefire after "long persuasion"
IRNA
New Delhi, Nov 27, IRNA -- India`s Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said on Wednesday that Pakistan has agreed to the border ceasefire between the two countries after "long persuasion", stressing that the truce would end cross-border terrorism, local press reported here on Thursday. "After long persuasion, Pakistan has agreed to the ceasefire and I am sure it will last long," Vajpayee told an election rally in Raipur, the Capital of newly formed Central Indian State of Chattisgarh. He expressed hope that cross-border terrorism would end and that relations between Indian and Pakistan would improve. Vajpayee stressed that India had progressed in the area of its nuclear program despite the pressure to prevent it from becoming nuclear, stressing that this was because India`s nuclear program was defensive in nature. After the nuclear tests, "foreign dignitaries not only stopped coming to India but also stopped inviting us," he said. "But the good work of the government has ensured there is a queue of foreign guests to the country and also invitations from them." Vajpayee stressed that instead of asking him how long his government would last, the foreign dignitaries are now talking about plans and policies of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. /AA/212 End
