INTRO: Indian officials say five Hindus have been killed in an attack by suspected Muslim militants in Indian-administered Kashmir. Anjana Pasricha reports Indian officials are again calling for Pakistan to do more to stop attacks by Islamic militants in Kashmir.

TEXT: Police say they suspect Muslim militants gunned down the villagers after entering their homes in a village in Udhampur district, about 66-kilometers east of Jammu.

Indian officials said Saturday that Muslim separatists failed in an attempt to kill Kashmir's chief minister (Farooq Abdullah). Officials also said militants hurled grenades at Hindu pilgrims, killing three children and three Muslim guards.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani said India will not resume a dialogue with Islamabad until it dismantles militant camps in Pakistani territory, and halts infiltration of Muslim militants across the line of control.

Pakistan says incursions by Muslim militants into Indian territory have stopped, and says talks must begin to resolve differences over Kashmir.

Despite the latest violence, there were more signs that military tensions are easing. The Indian army is allowing soldiers to take leave for the first time since the standoff with Pakistan began in December. (SIGNED)
