  • Nuclear Material from Germany Returned to U.S. Washington File 12 Aug 2004 -- A shipment of 126 spent nuclear fuel assemblies from three German research reactors have been returned to the United States, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced August 10.
  • First German Eurofighter Single Seater Leaves EADS Production Line EADS 14 Jul 2004 -- The first single-seater production Eurofighter destined for the German Luftwaffe left the final assembly hall of EADS Military Aircraft in Manching in early July. The aircraft, which has been designated GS 001 (German Single-Seater), is now undergoing those functional tests that for reasons of industrial safety could not be carried out in the final assembly hangar. These include the already completed fuel tests and the subsequent engine runs. There then follow extensive measuring campaigns on the EADS-own test facility to establish the electromagnetic compatibility of the GS 001 in the so-called "heavy fighter configuration", in which the aircraft is equipped with short- and medium-range air-to-air guided missiles and external tanks.
  • Rheinmetall to supply high-tech armoured vehicle to the Bundeswehr Rheinmetall Defence 08 Jul 2004 -- Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH of Kiel has been awarded a contract to supply the German Army with 32 airportable "Wiesel 2 Mobile Command Post" light armoured vehicles. The contract is worth some €31 million. These high-tech vehicles will be delivered over a two-year period starting mid 2005.
