Berlin to host int'l meeting on strengthening NPT

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Berlin, April 26, IRNA -- Berlin is to host a 10-nation meeting on strengthening the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty on Saturday, the Germany foreign ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

Dubbed 'The Friends of the Non-Proliferation Treaty', the rather obscure group is to discuss boosting the NPT as well as promoting nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament.

Germany formed an organization aiming to beef up NPT and disarmament last year which includes also Japan, Australia, Chile, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

Although the center-right government of Chancellor Angela Merkel claims to be spearheading a global nuke-free campaign, Berlin is still suppporting NATO's nuclear deterrence as some 20 nuclear weapons of the United States are still deployed at an air force base in the southwest German city of Buechel.

Germany is also a very close political and military ally of the Zionist regime and has delivered several Dolphin-class submarines to Tel Aviv which could be modified to carry nuclear missiles.

The controversial German military deal with the Zionist regime violates openly the German constitution which bars the sale of military goods to crisis regions like the Middle East.

The nuclear weapons states are lagging behind the timetable set by the United Nations to dismantle stockpiles of nuclear arms in line with the Disarmament Treaty.
