Germany-Energy-Enrichment
Germany is actively campaigning among member states of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency in a bid to seek support for an international uranium enrichment center, the foreign ministry announced in Berlin on Tuesday.

German government representatives have held talks in Vienna with those IAEA member states, interested in joining the initiative, added the ministry.

Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier was quoted as saying in a foreign ministry press statement that his country would step up efforts to canvass for the "multilateral model."

Steinmeier has advocated setting up uranium enrichment centers under control of the UN nuclear watchdog.

Under the plan, interested countries could obtain nuclear fuel for civilian use under strict control.

The international enrichment facility could be financed by countries that claim the right to buy nuclear fuel, according to Steinmeier.
